Assist Clients with Medication

Assist clients with medication will equip students with the skills and knowledge required to prepare for and provide medication assistance, and complete medication documentation. It also involves supporting a client to self-administer medication.

This unit applies to community services and health workers with authority in their state or territory to assist with the administration of medication.


At the successful completion of this unit, you will receive a nationally recognised HLTHPS006 – Assist clients with medication Statement of attainment under the Australian Qualifications Framework.

  • 8  hours of face-to-face classroom
  • 40 hours of online learning
  • 32 hours of work placement

Delivery Method

This course is delivered by a combination of face-to-face teaching workshops, self-study learning materials, and ongoing tutor support and mentoring. Students are required to undertake workbook activities and self-paced learning (approximately 7.5 hours per week).

Work Placement

You will be required to complete work placement in a health service environment. Alpine Institute will organise placement within Alpine Health or other Health Services. Placement will commence following successful completion of all assessment requirements.

Entry Requirements

This course is open to candidates 18 years of age and over.

Candidates seeking to undertake this course must have:

  • Certificate III  level qualification or currently undertaking training in, individual support, aged care, community care or similar, and will be enrolling to meet job role requirements for personal care workers.
  • National Police Check – on commencement of this course all candidates are required to complete/have a current National Police Check within 6 months
  • Immunisation Evidence – Students are required to complete the Alpine Health immunisation status form prior to Enrolment.
  • First Aid Certificate – Students must present a current Frist Aid certificate prior to Enrolment.
